St. Pedro Calungsod

April 2018

St. Pedro CalungsodSaint Pedro Calungsod (1654-1672)

St. Pedro Calungsod is a Filipino missionary and martyr. He moved to Guam at a young age and it was here that he received most of his education. At the young age of 13 he chose to accompany Spanish Jesuit missionaries to catechize the Mariana Islands. Pedro wanted to share God's message with others and many natives converted to Catholicism because of his skill as a sacristan and teacher. Pedro died at the age of 17 protecting his companion, Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores during a baptism. He is the patron saint of Filipino missionaries and young people. His feast day is April 2.

Blessed Pedro Calungsod, young migrant, student, Catechist, missionary, faithful friend, martyr, you inspire us by your fidelity in times of adversity, by your courage in teaching the faith in the midst of hostility, and by your lobe in shedding your blood for the sake of the Gospel. Make our troubles your own, and intercede for us before the throne of Mercy and Grace so that as we experience the help of heaven we may be encouraged to proclaim and live the Gospel here on earth.
