The St. Francis of Assisi Pastoral Council Honors Maria Balsiger

Maria Balsiger has been a member of our parish for 18 years. She is married to Steve and has two daughters, Danica and Jessica. Both girls are currently enrolled at the University of Washington. She is an Occupational Therapist at Highline Hospital.

She comes from a strong Catholic background with most of her volunteer inspiration coming from both her maternal and paternal grandmothers. One of her grandmothers provided her inspiration mantra by saying, “If you are asked to do something to help and it does not cause you or anyone else harm, then you need to do it’.

Maria also gains strength and direction by beginning her day in prayer. She feels energized and looks forward to accomplishing what God has in store for her. Prayer is her core value guiding everything in her life and it shows by her energetic spirit, open to what God has in store for her.

Maria is an advocate for our youth. She feels that the youth are the future and it is to youth ministry that she has been called to serve. Her service includes:14 years of Faith Formation, as a teacher and aid, 5 years as a Confirmation Leader and aid, 5 years on the Sister Parish committee with a trip to El Salvador, 3 plus years as a member of the Board of Directors for Hospitality House and Chair for their Spring Fling this year. She is also a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan.

Maria serves because she loves her parish. She serves because of the gift of spirit that is returned to her, tenfold. She serves because she loves her parish family and wants to enrich its programs. She serves because her grandmother said, “Then you need to do it.”

Thank you Maria, we honor you for your love, commitment and selfless giving to all of us at St. Francis. We want you to know how much we appreciate all you give each and every day. Thank you for providing the true spirit of God with a loving and giving heart.

Praise & Recognition

To nominate someone, click Read More >, below. One of the six key characteristics of an engaged member of a parish is that members have received recognition or praise from someone in their parish, within the past six months. As our Parish moves forward, it will be essential that we create the climate where parishioners freely and frequently can recognize and praise the efforts of other parishioners and staff members. One step in creating this climate is the creation of this forum. Read More
