St. Francis of Assisi Pastoral Council Honors Pat de Castongrene

The Pastoral Council would like to recognize Pat deCastongrene for her service to St. Francis.

She was born in Philadelphia August 10, 1936.  She is the oldest of five children and a daughter of Irish immigrants. She and her husband, Russ, were married 56 years ago and have five children of their own & three grandchildren. They have moved many times over the years but have spent the last 30 years in Seattle.  Their children are spread out across the country but they all get together a couple of times a year.

Her work experience has included work at the Philadelphia Naval base, General Electric, and the United Way. She worked for three years at Saint Bridget's in Laurelhurst after moving to Seattle, then Father Phil Wallace and Father Jim Lee asked her to take charge of Outreach at St. Francis, a position she held for nine years. During those years she became a Cabrini minister, bringing comfort and the Eucharist to parishioners at home and in the hospital.

Some of her other ongoing contributions to St. Francis include conducting a monthly prayer service at the Franciscan apartments, being a sacristan with husband, Russ, making salads for funeral receptions, making dinners for the women at Hospitality House, making sandwiches twice a month for Saint Martin Shelter &Lazarus House, serving as a member of the Peace and Justice Committee, serving as secretary for St. Vincent DePaul, & serving on the Steering Committee for the 50+ Group.

She and Russ also volunteer for the USO at the airport every other Sunday greeting our military and making them comfortable. When she is not busy doing thing for others, you might find Pat enjoying one of her other hobbies - swimming at the Highline Athletic Club, investing, or hiking with friends.

We want you to know how much we appreciate all you give to make St. Francis a parish we are blessed to call home. From all of us, thank you for providing the true spirit of God with a loving & giving heart.

St. Francis of Assisi Pastoral Council.

Praise & Recognition

To nominate someone, click Read More >, below. One of the six key characteristics of an engaged member of a parish is that members have received recognition or praise from someone in their parish, within the past six months. As our Parish moves forward, it will be essential that we create the climate where parishioners freely and frequently can recognize and praise the efforts of other parishioners and staff members. One step in creating this climate is the creation of this forum. Read More
