Pastoral Council Honors Ken Gollersrud

The pastoral council is pleased to recognize Ken Gollersrud. Ken and his wife, Lita, have been married for 31 years. Their son, Nils, just graduated from Seattle University this past Father’s Day; and their daughter, Celia, will begin her sophomore year at Baylor University in August. Both are St. Francis School alumni.

With a Masters in Library Science from the University of Washington, Ken's professional career has been with Seattle Public Library for nearly 30 years. He currently works at the High Point Branch in West Seattle.

Ken has been a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society since 2008, with a special focus on its food pantry ministry. He is also a member of the St. Francis Life, Justice and Peace Committee, drawn to issues both locally and globally. Describing himself as an introvert, he steps out of his comfort zone to lector at Mass.

Ken has found St. Francis to be a place of community for himself and his family. Sources of inspiration come from Father Dick, especially his humor and grace, from fellow parishioners and musicians at Mass, and his own pursuit of a mysterious and loving God. He gains strength and direction through daily contemplative prayer which he finds opens his heart to the day and seeing God in everyday life.

When asked how he might respond to someone looking for advice on getting involved, Ken suggested, "Think about your strengths, places in your life you might benefit from being challenged to respond, and ask questions. There are many ministries here at St. Francis. Look and see what appeals to you, what challenges you, then pray and act. You will find much support." His own faith journey has drawn him into various communities that have nurtured and challenged him in rewarding ways he'd never dreamed.

Ken, thank you for graciously sharing with us. You are a source of grace and inspiration and we are fortunate to claim you as a dear friend in Christ.

Praise & Recognition

To nominate someone, click Read More >, below. One of the six key characteristics of an engaged member of a parish is that members have received recognition or praise from someone in their parish, within the past six months. As our Parish moves forward, it will be essential that we create the climate where parishioners freely and frequently can recognize and praise the efforts of other parishioners and staff members. One step in creating this climate is the creation of this forum. Read More
