Religion: At St. Francis of Assisi School, the Archdiocesan curricular frameworks guide the grade level content in religion. The Trinity, the Sacraments, and the centrality of Jesus to one’s life and faith are the focal points of the K through 2 curriculum. In addition, the second grade curriculum prepares students to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. In third grade, students concentrate on the continuing work of Jesus through His Church. Living a moral life as modeled by Jesus forms the basis of fourth grade study, while in fifth grade students turn their attention to the Sacraments and Christ’s saving action through them. Sixth graders study in depth the history of God’s people in both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and come to understand the Bible as revealing God’s plan of salvation. Church history, liturgy and worship forms, Catholic morality, and basic Catholic doctrine, as expressed in the Nicene Creed and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, provide the framework for the junior high curriculum.
At every grade level, students have numerous opportunities to communicate effectively, think conceptually, solve problems, apply their knowledge of faith in real-life situations, and participate in the life of the parish.
