Fifth Grade provides a variety of opportunities to experience community. Teaching approaches range from lectures and independent work to cooperative groups and peer teaching. The atmosphere in class is one of high expectations along with individual support. Students experience the Gospel, engage in Bible studies and study the Sacraments. In math, students are taught strategic problem-solving and work to express their understanding of math concepts in writing. There is a heavy emphasis on fractions and decimals. In social studies, the focus is on U.S. History. Students use technology for research and presentation. Colonial projects are displayed at Open House during Catholic Schools Week. Field trips include a day on Puget Sound, exploring sea life for our study of Marine Science.
