Engagement - Volunteering & Strengths

We misunderstand stewardship to mean “The church has a need.”  The correct understanding is that you have a need to participate in something bigger than yourself.

Every individual – every parish member – plays an important role in energizing and shaping the Church.  The opportunity to do what you do best in your parish is an important key to being an engaged member with a sense of belonging.  More than half of churchgoers report that they don’t get to do what they do best in their parishes.  Often they find themselves volunteering to do things they don’t enjoy because the parish had a need.  Volunteering should be “strength-based” and not “needs-based”.  For every position in the parish there is someone who will gain enjoyment and fulfillment applying their strengths to that particular job.  MINISTRY is about releasing the talent in each person – helping them to do what they do best.  The PARISH is a gold mine of talent.
